The Parish Church of St Mary of Charity, Faversham

Built to InSpire is a Heritage project that has been funded by the Local Heritage Initiative.  The aims of which are to heighten the awareness amongst the local community, schools and visitors to the richness of treasures within the church and churchyard of St Mary of Charity and to gain an understanding of the origins, history and importance of the church within the local community, including customs and traditions.

The Parish Church of St Mary of Charity is first and foremost a place of worship and it is the vision of the church to broaden accessibility, encourage diversity of opportunities for worship and use of the church for all within the wider community of Faversham. The church is especially renowned for its medaieval painted column (see picture).

ImageThe project is divided into two stages – phase one was completed in October 2004, and phase two due for completion in November 2008. It will bring many benefits to the town and local community, introducing them to the richness of the treasures within the Parish Church of St Mary of Charity and the surrounding area. It is good news for the local community with many people becoming involved and learning to appreciate more of the historic background of their church and the community it is set in.
